CHIGIANA SOUND AND IMAGE

Teaching music for film throughout the history of the Accademia Chigiana

The new project SUONO E IMMAGINE (SOUND AND IMAGE) continues the historic presence of film scoring within the advanced-level summer courses held at the Accademia Chigiana by important instructors who were the absolute protagonists in film scoring, such as Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone, Luis Bacalov and Nicola Piovani.

Ennio Morricone taught from 1992 to 1996 at the summer courses of the academy; Nicola Piovani held the course in the summer of 2001, while Luis Bacalov had the longest tenure, teaching from 2002 to 2014.

The educational offer of the PROJECT, SOUND AND IMAGE stems from this important tradition, having been strategically updated with the technologies and resources available today.

OBJECTIVES

The program is built upon the following objectives:

1. offer the opportunity to acquire and develop knowledge on the applications of digital technologies in the audiovisual sector according to the best international standards;

2. foster the integration of scientific and artistic culture in relation to the vast fields of application of digital technologies;

3. contribute to launching the careers of young talents who wish to work in the various audiovisual disciplines (composition of film music, digital signal processing, sound & video design, audio recording, mixing and mastering, etc.).

The project aims to create a point of reference within the regional, national and international spheres for higher education and for the production of music for film and audiovisual media in their various forms (feature films, fiction, TV-series, animation, video games, virtual reality, etc.).

STRATEGIES

To attain these goals the Accademia Chigiana will integrate didactic and training activities on music production for audiovisual media.

The new area, “Sound and Image” will be based primarily in the Palazzo Chigi Saracini and in the spaces owned by the Accademia Chigiana, some of which will be restructured expressly for the purposes of the course.

Some activities will be carried out in collaboration with institutional partners (ex. ORT-Orchestra della Toscana).

COMBINING EDUCATION & PERFORMANCE

Since 2015, the Accademia Chigiana has embarked on a new course that combines and strongly integrates the higher education activity with the dynamics of live entertainment and concert diffusion in the context of its events.

The new “Sound and Image” area of activity will take up this design approach from the very beginning, aiming to make the works carried out in the first edition of the courses immediately usable for the public.

This initiative will be expanded and structured, also in consideration of the partnerships that will subsequently be established, as well as the collaboration with the Toscana Film Commission.

Therefore the new educational project represents an important enrichment of the cultural offer of the Region, with developments of great appeal for the public.
